Drive

Mulder and Scully are investigating people who have bought a lot of fertilizer, in case they are planning to make bombs with it. It’s basically a punishment. They see a newscast of a woman in Nevada who died. The woman seems like she had a bomb go off in her ear. Her husband, Mr. Crump, had "kidnapped" her at the time. Of course, they go to investigate.

Mulder ends up at the jail, trying to speak with Mr. Crump. Mr. Crump is being taken to the hospital in an ambulance and Mulder follows them. The faster the ambulance goes, the better Mr. Crump gets.

Scully is assisting the local doctor with the autopsy of Mrs. Crump. Then, she finds out there has been another victim, the gas meter reader at the Crump’s house. Scully puts the lab under quarantine and also says Mr. Crump and Mulder should be too.

Unfortunately, Mr. Crump has taken Mulder hostage and they are speeding down the freeway. Mr. Crump says that they have to go west and keep getting faster or he will die like his wife.

Throughout more of the show, we learn that what caused the deaths was a very low frequency sound which caused pressure to build up in the victims’ inner ears. There was a military test, part of which was on the Crump’s property. If the victim didn’t keep moving, they would die. The only person or animal near the Crump’s home who survived is a very old lady, who I assume is deaf.

Scully finally gets in touch with Mulder. She tells them she will meet Mulder and Mr. Crump at the end of the road, near the ocean. She can stick a needle in his ear and it will relieve the pressure. It will likely leave him deaf, but at least he’ll live. Unfortunately, by the time they get to the rendezvous point, Mr. Crump is dead.

Mulder and Scully return to Washington to meet their fate. Their new AD is reading over their expense report from the case.
